ASK Chilli: Pure Spice, Pure Heritage, Pure Organic

What Is ASK Chilli?

ASK Chilli is a family-run agribusiness based in Paramakudi, Tamil Nadu, specialising in the sourcing and supply of premium quality Gundu Red Chilli — the famous round red chilli variety native to Ramanathapuram district.

The name ASK comes from our family — a name that carries the values of our farming heritage: Authenticity, Sourcing, and Kuality (the Tamil pronunciation of quality).

Our products come directly from the farms of Paramakudi and the surrounding villages of Ramanathapuram district. No middlemen. No blending with inferior varieties. No adulteration of any kind.

The Gundu Milakai — Why It's Special

The Gundu Red Chilli (Gundu Milakai) is not just any chilli. It is a geographically specific variety grown in the red soil of Ramanathapuram district — and there is no adequate substitute for it.

What makes it distinct:

Appearance — Round, compact, and deep red. Unlike the elongated chillies common elsewhere in India, the Gundu Milakai has a distinctive spherical shape that identifies it immediately.

Colour — The pigment content of Gundu Milakai is exceptionally high. When added to oil, it releases a vivid, deep red that transforms the appearance of any dish. This is why it is prized by chefs and home cooks across South India.

Heat — Gundu Milakai carries significant heat — but it is a clean, direct heat, not a lingering burn. The Scoville rating places it well above ordinary red chilli powder, but the heat is balanced by the natural flavour compounds in the chilli.

Aroma — Dried Gundu Milakai has a rich, earthy fragrance that is instantly recognisable to anyone who grew up in a Tamil kitchen. It is the smell of tempering oil, of Sunday cooking, of home.

Our Products

Whole Dried Gundu Red Chilli

The primary product — sun-dried, hand-sorted, and graded for colour, size, and heat level. Available in bulk supply for traders, wholesalers, and food manufacturers, and in smaller quantities for direct customers.

Gundu Chilli Powder

Stone-ground from whole dried Gundu Milakai, our chilli powder retains the colour, heat, and aroma of the whole chilli. No fillers, no artificial colourants.

Cotton

Ramanathapuram's black cotton soil (karisaal mann) produces high-quality cotton. We source and supply raw cotton from farms in the district, primarily for textile manufacturers and cotton traders.

How We Source

Our sourcing is direct and relationship-based.

We work with farming families in Paramakudi, Ponnakkaneri, and surrounding villages — many of whom we have known for decades. These are families who have cultivated Gundu Milakai for generations on the same land.

We visit the farms during the growing season, assess the crop quality before harvest, and purchase directly at fair prices. There is no auction, no broker, no mystery about where the product comes from.

This model keeps the quality consistent and ensures that the people who actually grow the chilli receive a fair share of what the market pays.

Why It Matters

There is a slow disappearance happening in Indian agriculture: traditional crop varieties being replaced by higher-yield hybrids that taste of nothing.

The Gundu Milakai is not yet lost — but it needs people who will grow it, buy it, and value it. Every bag of authentic Gundu Red Chilli that leaves Paramakudi is a small act of preservation.

We are not a large company. We are a family that believes the food its region has produced for centuries deserves to be on tables across the country — and the world.
